The Magic Box

Once upon a time, there was a town called Fiatland that was down on its luck. No industry, no jobs, not even a general store. Then, one day, a haggard old man wandered into town asking for help.

“I need a place to stay” said the man. The townsfolk skeptical of the man, offered him a hill on the outskirts of town.

The stranger thanked the town folk and proceeded to make camp on the hill.

Some time passed and the stranger came into town asking for help.

“Thank you for letting me stay on your hill, but it is getting cold and I need shelter. I’m willing to pay whatever you want”

Having been on hard times for so long the townsfolk began scrambling for work.

“I’ll do it for $10” said one of the townsfolk.

“I’ll do it for $5” said another.

“I’ll do it for $1” said a man in the back.

“Are you sure you can build a house for $1?” the stranger asked.

“Sure can,” he replied. And off they went.

The work was long and hard but the man was able to build the a crude shelter for the stranger. He thanked the man, and as promised, the stranger paid him his dollar and went inside his house.

Some time passed and the stranger came back down the hill asking for help again

“Thank you for letting me stay on your hill, but the walk into town is long and hard on my back. I need someone to build a road up the hill to my house. I’m willing to pay whatever you want”

“I’ll do it for $10” said one of the townsfolk.

“I’ll do it for $5” said another.

“I’ll do it for $1” said the man who built the house.

“Are you sure you can build a road for $1?” the stranger asked.

“Sure can,” he replied. And off they went.

When the man was done building the road, the stranger paid him his dollar but before he went inside his house, the stranger said to the man

“If you want some more work, i could really use a fence. There are lots of wild animals in the woods and i would feel much safer. Ill pay whatever you want.“

Sensing a chance to make a little more money without underbidding everyone else the man said

“I’ll do it for $2”

“Are you sure you can build a fence for $2?” the stranger asked.

“Sure can,” he replied. “I just need to get some supplies. I’ll be back tomorrow”

Now this was a poor town and didn’t even have a general store. So the man took his two dollars to the town next door to buy the supplies to build the fence. When the man handed his money to the cashier , the cashier said to him,

“You’re not from around here are you?”

“No” replied the man. “I’m from Fiatland”

“If you don’t mind me asking, who gave you this money?”

“Well, if you must know, i did some work for a guy”

“What does he look like?” asked the cashier

The man described the stranger as best he could and when he finished the cashier asked

“Did he say ‘I’m willing to pay whatever you want’?” asked the cashier

“Yes” replied the man

“Well i’m sorry buddy but that money is counterfeit”

“What do you mean?” asked the man

The cashier then proceeded to tell the man about the stranger on the hill.

“Well that guy used to live on a hill in our town. And every so often he would come down the hill and ask for help. Our town was in a really bad spot and there were no jobs. So we all offered to help. People would undercut each other just to make any amount of money. First he started small. A shelter, a shed, a fence. Then he asked for more and more. A house, then a bigger house. The fence turned into a wall, and then a bigger wall. We never stopped to ask where the money was coming from. Well, it turns out that he has a magic box. All he has to do is think of a number and then reach in the box and he can pull that exact amount of money out of it.”

That box is the federal reserve. The cashier represents Bitcoin and Bitcoiners. We won’t work for magic money that can be pulled out of a box anymore.
